Southwell and Burfitt in fine form for Stingers

NETTLEBED’S back to netball team, known as Nettlebed Stingers, celebrated an 8-6 victory against Berinsfield on Monday.

NETTLEBED’S back to netball team, known as Nettlebed Stingers, celebrated an 8-6 victory against Berinsfield on Monday.

The Nettlebed team regained control following a 3-1 lead to Berinsfield in the first round. Played at home as part of four seven minute mini-games, the team of 14 were split into separate alternating teams for each quarter.

With Nettlebed’s Burfitt scoring another two points in the second round the team recovered from a 4-3 defeat to Berinsfield in round two.

Gaining another three points in the third round, scored by the Nettlebed goal attack Southwell, the team were up by eight points on the final whistle, having conceded six in total.



Following this inaugural game in a series of fixtures against squads across Berkshire and Oxfordshire, the Nettlebed team are set to host Henley next month for their second match of the season.

Speaking after the victory, team coach Louise Porter said: “I’m so proud of the team today, Berinsfield are a strong team so I’m delighted with the way the girls kept their cool, took their time and focused on accuracy throughout.

“It’s a brilliant result for our first match of the season and should stand us in good stead for the next fixtures.”
