American politicians at school

TWO American politicians will visit Reading Blue Coat School in Sonning on Monday.

TWO American politicians will visit Reading Blue Coat School in Sonning on Monday.

Ann Marie Buerkle, former assistant attorney general of New York State and a Republican representative, and Dennis M Hertel, former Democratic state representative for Michigan, will attend an open day called Congress to Campus aimed at students planning to study American politics at university.

They will be joined by scholars including Dr Ross English, of Kingâ??s College, London, and Dr Mark Shanahan, of the University of Reading. They will take part in talk with topics including the US election system and president Barack Obamaâ??s two terms in office.

The event, which is being run by the school and the British Association of American Studies and the Eccles Centre at the British Library, will run from 9.30am to 3.30pm. Tickets cost £10 each and can be booked by emailing Dr Adam Burns, head of government and politics at the school, at adb@rbcs.org.uk
