I HAVE lived in Henley for 30 years and have supported HRG since its establishment in 1991 as I believe that Henley should be run by residents for residents. I was first elected as a councillor in 2003 and was mayor in 2005/06.
I have taken an interest in a wide range of issues, including transport and pollution, sport and recreation, heritage, environment and sustainability. I have enjoyed supporting local sports organisations to promote healthy and active lives for all residents, especially young people.
I have led the fight to save and redevelop Townlands Hospital by helping to establish the Townlands Steering Group which I have chaired since 2005. Eleven years on, this fight continues and we need to be vigilant in ensuring we get the services we need.
For the last four years I have chaired the finance, strategy and management committee. I have ensured sound finances which have helped to keep council tax rises below inflation, increase spending and increase our investments above inflation.
I combine my work as a councillor with a full–time job as director of a software development company. I believe that this gives me useful experience in the real world which is important when running a council.
