I BELIEVE the town council should be independent of party politics. HRG, of which I am chairman, is what it says on the tin – Henley residents working for Henley residents. We get things done.

Henley is a great place to live and HRG is the group that makes a difference. We will sort out the HGV through–traffic that rattles our historic buildings and causes 40 per cent of the pollution. Using our town’s investments, we will set up a fund for grants and loans to help our fantastic sports and recreation clubs. Town buses every 15 minutes will help reduce traffic and pollution. We will refurbish all playgrounds, create a splash park and build the skate park – all HRG commitments.

As a town councillor and mayor, I made a difference as follows: Henley’s streets are steam–cleaned three times a year; business waste is collected at 5pm so Henley looks good in the evenings; I started, with the fantastic Maggie Atkinson, Music on the Meadows, showcasing Henley’s exciting young talent; new toilets and a very popular toddler playground were installed; Henley has the lowest town tax in South Oxfordshire; HRG was responsible for saving the Regal Cinema and after a long, HRG–led campaign, with the Townlands Steering Group, we secured the hospital – all HRG successes.
