MP given new role

HENLEY MP John Howell has been asked to help the Government encourage the take up of neighbourhood plans

HENLEY MP John Howell has been asked to help the Government encourage the take up of neighbourhood plans across the country.

The appointment was announced during parliamentary questions to the communities and local government team.

Mr Howell, who helped draft the neighbourhood plan legislation, said: “I am very excited to be taking on this role at a crucial time in the development of neighbourhood plans.

“Thame and Woodcote already have their plans and I hope Henley will soon follow. They are an excellent way for communities to play a major role in the planning system and help shape the future of those communities.”

Mr Howell has also been re-elected as a member of the justice select committee.

He said: “In the last parliament we undertook a number of key enquiries into areas to do with our prisons and the justice system. I look forward to continuing this work.”
