Public notices: Road closures, contraflow, and reduced speed limit proposal in Slough

In the public notices, Slough Borough Council is looking to introduce road closures, contraflow, and vary the speed limit around Farnham Road and Furnival Avenue for six months.

The proposed order will prohibit vehicles in an area of the highway, including junctions and side road approaches, and permit a speed limit variation from 30mph to 20mph, not more than 100 metres into its junction side road, for the following areas:

  • Farnham Road in both directions from a point 265 metres south of its junction with Whitby Road, to its junction with Crofthill Road
  • The entirety of Furnival Avenue

The order will also prohibit any pedestrians and cyclists from using the footway along Farnham Road and Furnival Avenue within the works area.

It will permit a contraflow system for the passage of northbound vehicles on the southbound carriageway, and vice versa, under controlled traffic management on Farnham Road and Furnival Avenue, not more than 100 metres into its junction’s side road approaches.

The order will permit a contraflow system for eastbound vehicles on the westbound carriageway, and vice versa, on Sheffield Road from its junction with Farnham Road to a point 100m east of its junction with Devon Avenue.

The order is needed because works are to be carried out near the road, and came into operation at midnight on Monday, September 29, with work expected to be completed by 11.59pm on Friday, March 26.

Alternative routes will be available while the order is in force, with diversions signed at the locations and advanced warning notices advising of the dates the works will be carried out.

Access will be maintained for all residents and businesses.

The start and end points of the road closures and contraflow are:

  • The entirety of Furnival Avenue
  • From the variation of the speed limit of Farnham Road in both directions between a point 265 metres south of its junction with Whitby Road, to its junction with Crofthill Road, including not more than 100 metres into its junction's side road approaches.
  • Sheffield Road from its junction with Farnham Road to a point 100m east of its junction with Devon Avenue.

The start and end points of the introduction of the 20mph speed limit are:

  • The A4 (Bath Road, High Street and Wellington Street) for its entirety
  • Farnham Road in both directions between a point 265 metres south of its junction with Whitby Road, to its junction with Crofthill Road, including not more than 100 metres into its junction's side road approaches.
