Flexible pension schemes need financial planning

ARE you 55 or older and have you not yet taken any or all of your pension benefits?

The pension changes announced in the March budget (currently subject to consultation) may mean that from next April you have greater choice and flexibility in how you access your pension savings.

With many people living for 20 or more years in retirement, this is a lot of life that needs to be financially planned for and some decisions around taking pension benefits cannot be undone.

If you are still building up your pension there are two areas for you to be aware of from April 2015:

• If your pension is in an unfunded public sector Defined Benefit scheme then from next April you will not be able to transfer your pension out of such a scheme
