Roads re-open as flood water recedes

Roads re-open as flood water recedes

FLOOD water is receding in the Henley area.

Measuring stations along the River Thames on the Henley Reach are still recording higher than normal levels but these are beginning to fall.

Downstream from Marsh Lock it peaked on Sunday at 4.27m but today (Wednesday) is down to 3.83m.

The Environment Agency is still issuing flood warnings for communities along the river, including Henley, Medmenham, Lower Shiplake, Shiplake, Remenham and Wargrave.

It warns that the flooding of properties is expected to continue as water moves through the system.

The Met Office station at Benson has issued a dry forecast for the next few days but temperatures are expected to plummet.

Roads in the town centre have re-opened fully as surface water has dried up.

The River & Rowing Museum in Mill Meadows is set to re-open this weekend, having been closed for a week after its building and car park became inaccessible due to flooding.

The public playgrounds, which are maintained by Henley Town Council, will re-open after they have been assessed.

A special flooding report with reaction and pictures will appear in this week’s Henley Standard, out on Friday.
