Shiplake crews gain further success

SHIPLAKE College Boat Club had another successful outing with a clean sweep of wins at the Kingston Head of the River Race last weekend.

The Kingston Head is run over a 5.2km course on the Kingston-on-Thames stretch of the river and was the last head race of the season for Shiplake before moving into regatta season.

The J18 eight of Federico Focosi, Marcus Brown, Joshua Wombwell, Bobby Howard-Jones, Tom Fox, Matthew Waller, Richard Adams, Tom Boret and cox Cameron Gass came away winners of their event, beating Eton College and Hampton School in a time of 16 minutes, 38 seconds while the J18 coxed four of Joshua Wombwell, Bobby Howard- Jones, Matthew Waller, Tom Boret and cox Cameron Gass also won their event in a time of 18 minutes, 29 seconds.

The J16 eight of Toby Coles, Kesha Sarkytbayev, Rory Cameron-Martin, Ben Acton, Lucas Batty, Angus Wood, Adam Hunt, Robert Humphris and cox Elon Lawrence won their race as well as the J15 eight of Jensen Perry, William Fundell, Samuel Waller, Johnny Miller, Thomas Houghton, Edward Tayler, Edward Dallas, Dylan Hillier and cox Wallace Fisher.

In their first open event, having previously only taken part in closed private matches, the J14 octuple of Luke Byca, Jett Dyason, Harry Wood, Reuben Logan, Edward Floyd, Samuel Edwards, Fred Fox, Louis Swinburne-Johnson and cox Charlie Keena also took the gold.

The Boat Club also had seven athletes — Rhys Ash, Ben Brockway, Dominic Brown, Sydney Burnand, Sebastian Hyortland-Marks, Jacob Kirby and Olivia Morgan — representing Shiplake College at the GB trials at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham at the same time.
