Henley’s junior boys secure narrow wins at Kingston Regatta

HENLEY Rowing Club’s junior boys had success at last weekend’s Kingston Regatta where they picked up two wins by feet.

There was success for the Henley J16 quad of Charlie Green, Oscar Newson, Harrison Bartels-Thiel and Maxim Lusenko, who overpowered Tideway Scullers’ School in the final to finish five lengths clear.

The final of J15 eights in the heat of the day was much tighter. Henley’s crew of Sebastian Lee, Diego Petrosillo, James Weeks, Oliver Rowley, Miles Vann, Flynn Burrow, Franco Bigmore Wallace and Samuel Byerley were down by half a length after 250m but slowly began to gain on King’s College School, Wimbledon — A finalists at the National Schools’ Regatta in May.

In a final surge past the spectators’ enclosure, Henley finally got their bow in front to win by three feet. Four of the J15 eight — Petrosillo, Burrow, Bigmore Wallace and Vann — then repeated the same three-foot margin win in the final of J15 quads.

Here they raced Barn Elms and Globe Rowing Club, with the lead moving back and forth between the two crews before Henley once again pushed ahead to take the win.
