NEW Zealand rugby legend Sean Fitzpatrick will officially open Henley Rugby Club’s new clubhouse on Saturday.
The £475,000 redevelopment has taken less than four months to complete and includes a new kitchen and an extension to the bar.
Fitzpatrick, a world cup winner with the All Blacks, will officially open the clubhouse at 12.45pm before the Henley Hawks’ first home game of the season against Chinnor, which kicks off at 3pm.
Club chairman Mike Trethewey said: “The new clubhouse is fantastic.
“People will not recognise it as the old building. It’s the same shell but inside it has been completely refurbished.
“We can now fit about 230 people in for dinner with between 50 and 100 people in the bar.
“81 Events will manage our catering and the Loddon brewery have brought out a new Hawks ale.”
In a second phase of work, which will cost £300,000, a changing room block will be added to the clubhouse.
The single-storey extension on the western side of the building will include toilets, which will mean the club will meet Rugby Football Union standards, and a club shop.
