ABBEY failed to overturn a 15-0 half-time deficit and went on to lose to Alchester in a dismal game at blustery Rosehill, writes Mark Hoskins.
With both teams in the Southern Counties North relegation zone, this was a match Abbey desperately needed to win.
The visitors looked strong in the early stages, with No8 Joe Macaneaney making two good breaks.
The home scrum, which improved markedly as the game went on, came under early pressure close to the Abbey line, but second row Jeremy Knights brought off a good steal to avert danger.
The visitors opened their account after 21 minutes when winger Ben Ancil crossed for a try in the left corner but centre Tom Miles was unable to add a difficult conversion.
