Mayor urges more support for rugby club
THE Mayor of Henley has urged residents to support the town’s rugby club.

Martin Akehurst issued his rallying cry as he was awarded the club’s highest membership type for his period of office.

Club president Graham Horner presented the Mayor with a Henley Hawks jumper and tie at Dry Leas to mark the occasion. The Mayor’s membership entitles him to entry to any match, preferential parking on match days, lunch, entry into the draw for international tickets and to be able to vote at the club’s annual meetings.

Councillor Akehurst said: “I’m absolutely delighted. It’s a great club, which does a lot for Henley, especially for the youngsters. It really deserves people’s support.” He said he planned to take full advantage of his new membership in the coming season when the Hawks will be playing in National Division 2 South.

Club chairman Mike Trethewey said: “We really appreciate the support the town council has given the club over many years.” Mr Horner added: “This is a simple way to thank the council.”
