ABBEY took part in the Grasshoppers Church Cup last Saturday, a pre-season tournament for teams playing from level six to eight of the RFU playing structure.
Abbey started the day against a strong Bournville side. Abbey started brightly and not only kept the scores level through to half-time but also created plenty of opportunities with good possession and territory.
The second half saw Bournville attack with real purpose and they soon crossed the whitewash to record the first points of the game.
Abbey responded well through a strong drive from a line out with captain for the day Chris Shaw grounding the ball.
Going into the final quarter of the game Bournville’s superior strength in depth showed as they made multiple changes and managed to bag themselves two more tries before the full-time whistle.
