New signings spark scramble for Hawks team selection
Marlow 1st XV 5, Henley Hawks XV 19
HENLEY HAWKS have their last pre-season games away against Ampthill and District where they take sides billed as the Hawks and the Bulls involving a total of 40 players, writes Noel Armstead.
The hosts gained promotion to Division 2 (North) at the end of last season. They were obliged to go into that league after losing a play-off against Darlington Mowden Park.
The two sides met again last Saturday with the same result as DMP won a very closely-contested game 31-28 with a penalty decider in the final minute of the match.
The Hawks will field two sides which will include most of their 20 new signings. There will therefore be a lot of competition for places in the side that will play Dorking away next Saturday in the first league game of the season. Four of the new players, Piers O’Conor (wing) Oskar Herskyj-Douglas (back row), TomWest (prop) and George Edgson (hooker) are members of the England Academy and also two from London Irish Conor Murphy (scrum-half) and Theo Vukasinovic (lock) are expected to be dual registered with Henley RFC.
