Esher Cardinals hold on for victory

Esher Cardinals 24, Henley Bulls 19

HENLEY BULLS suffered a third successive narrow defeat in the Zoo Shield on Saturday.

The Bulls were missing all three regular lock forwards as Theo Vukasinovic earned a call-up to the Hawks meaning Rupert Crossland stepped in at late notice as did Rob Smith, whose recent performances for the Vikings earned him the nod to replace injured Jake O’Leary.

Jake Randall made only his third competitive appearance in 12 months starting on the wing after moving from Llandovery and scrum-half Tom Parker also got a first run out in Henley colours in the second half replacing Mark Bruce.

The Bulls weathered a first half of Esher pressure as they seemed to take root in the Bulls half, determining both the tempo of the game and dominating the possession for much of the period.
