Bulls are floored by the cream of Jersey

HENLEY BULLS were buried by seven second-half tries as Jersey Athletic roared back to the top of the Zoo Sport Shield Premiership, writes Ron Felton.

The match on a cold and windy day in the Channel Isles was matched by a spirited first-half performance from the Bulls, who succeeded in putting the hosts under considerable pressure.

With more than 200 home fans braving the conditions, a solid start from Jersey brought early scores from the scrum and veteran prop Jim Brimelow.

But the Bulls, with scrum-half Dan Wotton impressive, took advantage of an interception on their own line to set up a prolonged period of pressure in the Jersey half, eventually scoring through full-back Adam Lubbock.

Jersey coach Nathan Kemp threw on flankers Nick Trower and Brian Rennison after 35 minutes and they certainly added some attacking vim to the home side, with both going on to claim two tries each, along with assists for the likes of Jersey Academy product Matt Michel, who also scored a brace of tries.
