Rugby club salutes former player and post-war pilot

A MAN who played rugby for London Wasps more than 60 years ago has been honoured by the club.

Bill Stuff, 90, served with the RAF in Germany after the end of the Second World War but would play at Wasps’ Sudbury ground during his leave together with other members of the armed forces.

Mr Stuff, who lived in Wargrave for 40 years before moving to Sonning last year, played for the club three or four times during the winter of 1946/47.

He was invited to Wasps’ home match against London Irish on February 15 after his old neighbour and Wasps supporter Chris Palles got in touch with the club.

He was picked up by Mr Palles and taken to the Adams Park Stadium in High Wycombe, where the pair enjoyed a traditional pie and pint before watching the action.
