Hawks boss sets sights on bouncing straight back up

HENLEY HAWKS are targeting an immediate return to National League 1 after suffering relegation on Saturday.

The club will now play their rugby in National League Division 2 (South) after an away draw against Tynedale on the last day of the season was not enough to keep them in English rugby’s third tier.

Head coach Nigel Dudding told the Standard he was still committed to the club after the result. He said: “It’s bitterly disappointing and the whole squad is gutted the way things have played out this season.

“The thing about relegation is it should never have come down to that last game and the pressure we took to Tynedale.

“In terms of commitment it was first class. If you’d seen it on Saturday you’d have thought ‘what’s the team doing where we are?’”
