League leaders prove too strong for Hawks Women

Thurrock Ladies 77, Henley Hawks Women 3

A CROWD of more than 200 spectators saw Championship 1 South league leaders Thurrock predictably ease past visitors Henley Hawks on Sunday.

The hosts, who boast five England players, three of whom are full-time, have England coach Gary Street associated with the club.

Henley started brightly against the hosts, who are vying for a return to the top flight, and from the kick-off took it to them. Hearn, starting at fullback made good breaks into the opposition half, only to find how quickly they were in over the ball. A penalty ensued and two quick tap-and-goes meant they were in under the posts.

The intensity did not drop for 80 minutes and retaining ball was a constant issue. When they did the Hawks put together good passages of play, only to find themselves on the wrong end of the referee’s whistle for most of the match. Fisher was now causing problems and the pace and footwork outside meant the tries rained in. These were not made easy by an industrious Henley defence and they had to play well for their points.
