AFTER suffering three successive defeats by three to four points in Zoo Division 1 matches at the hands of Championship and Division 1 sides, Henley faced a mature RAF side which contained two Hawks’ props in Dave Manning and Tim Coghlan on a night of incessant rain on Wednesday of last week.
Given the conditions the Bulls adapted to the wet ball at the start of the game and within two minutes went ahead when a quick handling movement down the right put Fred Pierrepoint through to score near the posts from half-way. Jake Elias scored the conversion to put the Bulls 7-0 ahead.
The hosts settled into the conditions quicker than the visitors and went further ahead through two tries by number eight Barty Carson, one of which was converted by Elias to make the score 19-0.
The RAF side had not found their feet in the conditions, although the pitch withstood the deluge well and after 22 minutes the Bulls were leading 26-3 when flanker Liam Trinder picked up a loose ball to race away 35 metres to touch down without a hand being laid on him. Elias once again converted.
