ONE of the most recognisable stars of world rugby, Jason Leonard OBE, will be attending Ladies? Day at Henley Rugby Club tomorrow (Saturday) to support East London club Barking, the side where he started his illustrious career, against Henley Hawks.

Last Friday a secret ballot was held at Twickenham to elect the RFU junior vice-president for 2013/14, and the person elected to this position would then go on to be president in 2015, the year England host the next Rugby World Cup.

Leonard, currently 44 years old, will be the youngest ever RFU president by some years, and also will be the first ex-professional rugby player to be installed in the post. Leonard was elected following a passionate speech in his favour from a North Midlands RFU council member, referring to his rise from a grass-roots club player at Barking to the world stage.

Leonard, who was capped 114 times for England and five times for the British and Irish Lions, was also praised for continuing to devote his time to grass-roots rugby, as an RFU councillor and former president of Barking.

Rob Heginbotham, social organiser and fundraiser at Henley Rugby Club, said: ?Jason has some long-term connections here in Henley, and we are obviously delighted that, at such a busy time for him, he has been able to keep a commitment that was made back in autumn to visit Henley for this game.

?We hope that as many people as possible will be able to come to Dry Leas to meet him and say hello.?

Saturday is the annual Ladies? Day lunch at the Hawks. This is the closest day to Valentine?s Day since the last home game was on January 5. Ladies get into the game free, and bubbles and chocolates are also provided as the club says thank you for allowing their partners to follow the Hawks both here and around the country.

Pre-lunch drinks are from 12.30pm with the National Division 2 South game kicking-off at 3pm.
