HENLEY HAWKS U12s, who entered two sides in the Oxfordshire Championships at Chinnor, came away with silverware last Sunday.

HENLEY U12A completed their pool with three wins and a draw to progress to the semi-final. After a close contest, they succumbed by one try and found themselves in the plate final where they triumphed comfortably.

The Hawks out-rucked the opposition in every game as they scored 14 tries to three to lift the plate.

HENLEY U12B team found themselves in a tough pool with Banbury, Wheatley and hosts Chinnor.

A try from Charlie Chambers and a good forward effort brought victory over Banbury and paved the way for Henley to win their pool and progress to the cup final against Abingdon.

Henley dominated from the outset allowing Harry Bindley-Ross to cross twice in a 3-1 victory. The result meant that the B team won the tournament for the sixth year in a row as they finished the season unbeaten.

HENLEY U10A side retained the county cup in style. Handed a tough draw, Henley overcame Witney, Banbury, Oxford Harlequins, Bicester and Chipping Norton en route to the final where they overcame the hosts, Chinnor. The team were led from the front by Ben Doyle who along with Henry Lenthall, Ollie Martin and Liam Hilditch did not take a backward step all day. In the backs the ball moved freely and wings Freddy Loveland and William Young always threatened with their pace and power.

Inside them, half backs Dom Osborne and Monty Bradbury called the shots whilst centres Will Nugent and Sander Ranson ran intelligent lines, created gaps and put in some shuddering hits. Entering two sides in the B competition nearly paid off for Henley as both sides’ progressed to the plate and cup finals respectively.

HENLEY U10 B2 won the plate with a 4-1 victory over the Gosford All-Blacks. Rita Rogers and Spencer Bounds both grabbed a brace made possible by good work from Alex Tams and Sam O’Brian.

Meanwhile HENLEY U10B1 swept all before them scoring nine unanswered tries to reach the B cup final which they lost 2-1 on the last play of the game.

Harry Purslow, Rory Nicoll and Will Hammersley put in a good performance in the backs while up front Dan Crick impressed. HENLEY U9s retained their Oxfordshire title for the third consecutive year.

The squad, who entered 23 players, competed in three finals. The A team won their pool before beating Chipping Norton 5-3 in the final.

Two teams were entered into the B competition. HENLEY U9 B1 made it though to their cup final where they lost 5-3 to Wallingford.

HENLEY U9 B2, largely made up of players new to the game this season, lost their first game but showed immense resolve to then remain unbeaten for the rest of the day. They eventually found themselves in the shield final against Grove which they won 5-1.
