College’s senior squad all set for South African tour

THE Shiplake College senior rugby squad depart next month for a 15-day tour of South Africa.

THE Shiplake College senior rugby squad depart next month for a 15-day tour of South Africa.

After their flight from Heathrow to Johannesburg and internal transfer to Cape Town on August 2, the players will acclimatise at the Alan Zondagh Rugby Performance Centre before they begin their programme of five matches.

Shiplake will have a training session at Stellenbosch University, which has produced more than 155 rugby Springboks. Sam Beckett, Shiplake’s head of rugby, who is also director of England Lambs’ Independent Schools’ U14 squad, said: “This tour has become a regular biennial feature of Shiplake rugby. It is more than a pre-season tour.

“With frequent coaching and video analysis the players have the opportunity to develop their individual skills. Most important of all the players have a chance to bond and develop squad cohesion.”
