Wimbledon have no answer as Atkinson helps herself to hat-trick
HENLEY HAWKS Women stormed to the top of the Championship South West 2 Division with a comprehensive victory at Wimbledon
HENLEY HAWKS Women stormed to the top of the Championship South West 2 Division with a comprehensive victory at Wimbledon on Sunday.
The game started evenly for the first 15 minutes as Henley had to adjust to a narrow pitch which allowed the hosts’ pack to cover the field well as both sides had early penalty kicks just missed.
Henley took the lead when Forbes crossed to claim the opening try. Atkinson doubled the lead soon after while some big hits from Wysocki-Jones and Forbes snubbed out any inroad Wimbledon tried to make after.
The Hawks’ hands and pace started to take effect and it wasn’t long before Solowin burst down the touchline to finish off. Dudding converted.
A good series of pressure and controlling the balls allowed for the best team try of the day, finished off in the corner by Atkinson, who ran round under the post to allow Dudding to convert and make it 24-0 at half-time.
The second half was now all about chasing the fifth try for the bonus point and maintaining the pressure.
Through some clever kicks from Lynch, Wimbledon were pinned back in their half and had rare moments of territory via the boot on their fly half. A powerful burst from Lynch saw her go over for Henley to score again with 20 minutes left.
Forbes’ blow to the head from the first half meant she moved out to the wing late on as Dudding moved to scrum half. After a good set of rucks she darted in from close while Lynch slotted the extra points.
This just left time for Atkinson to be put into space on the half way and she took full advantage to claim her hat-trick.
