Shiplake take honours

SHIPLAKE ran out winners away to Odiham side Lord Wandsworth College.

SHIPLAKE ran out winners away to Odiham side Lord Wandsworth College.

The visitors began confidently and slick overloads from winger Nick Burnage and open-side flanker Alex Collis created a line for Fili Savou to score the opening try. Toby Howe kicked the extras.

Following a line out on the 22 metre line, skipper Collis peeled off of the blind side to dive over in the corner. Howe, kicking from close to the touchline, slotted home a difficult conversion.

The hosts hit back, taking a penalty quickly and scoring their opening try. Another try followed quickly and Lord Wandsworth College sensed that they were back in the game. In the second half substitute Milo Taylor crashed through the defence for Shiplake’s third try. With pressure building on the home defence a charge down gave Burnage the opportunity to react quickly and touch down for a fourth try.

With the last play of the game Howe helped himself to another three points from a penalty.

l Elsewhere Shiplake College 3rds defeated Pangbourne College 3rds 24-14 in the third match between the two sides this season. Going into the match, both sides had won a match each.
