Atkinson bags brace as unbeaten league leaders complete double

TOP-OF-THE-TABLE Henley Hawks Women maintained their 100 per cent Championship South West Division 2 record as they completed over Wimbledon

TOP-OF-THE-TABLE Henley Hawks Women maintained their 100 per cent Championship South West Division 2 record as they completed over Wimbledon at Dry Leas on Sunday.

Henley could have been four tries ahead inside the first 20 minutes but the usual sure hands and clinical finishing went missing on the final pass.

This allowed Wimbledon to gain confidence and play their way out of the half. The Hawks comfortably soaked up the pressure and kept breaking the line, only for good cover tackles to keep them at bay.

In the last two minutes of the half and for the first time in the match, Henley injected some real tempo resulting in Atkinson busting the line to finish off from 40 metres out. Dudding converted.

The kick-off meant Henley received and once again put together a string of rucks at pace. Atkinson then ran from inside her own half to outpace the remaining cover and allow a simple kick for Dudding under the posts.

The second half was a repeat of the first as Henley attacked time after time. Scores went begging despite good build-up play from the forwards and snipping runs from Dudding and Solowin. The game finished 14-0 to the hosts, but the much coveted bonus point eluded them.
