HENLEY U16s’ squad, playing in the Oxfordshire League 1, defeated Wallingford, county champions for the last seven seasons, in successive weekends.

A re-scheduled match from last year meant these two teams faced each other first at Henley and then at Wallingford last Sunday.

Henley won 33-17 at home, scoring five tries through Max Ainsworth (2), Harry Derbyshire, Iwan MacRae and Finley Tubb.

Last Sunday’s match saw each team strengthen their squads and put in a committed and enthralling display. Seventy minutes of hard fought rugby, where Henley had several tries disallowed as they failed to control the ball over the line.

The match was eventually decided by a single try, scored by Harry Derbyshire late in the second half. Freddie Atkinson was named man-of-the-match for Henley.
