Abbey go 10 points clear with walkover

ABBEY Rugby Club’s lead at the top of Southern Counties North was extended

ABBEY Rugby Club’s lead at the top of Southern Counties North was extended to 10 points as Farnham Common’s Drifters were unable to field a team.

Head coach Fungai Mutepfa said he was “disappointed” the game failed to go ahead because he wanted to maintain his side’s match sharpness.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Abbey host second-placed Aylesbury at the Rosehill. The outcome of the match will have a massive bearing on who will be crowned league champions at the end of the season.

A win for Abbey would put them 15 points clear, meaning they would have to lose three of their last four games not to seal promotion.

Fungai is bullish about his side’s chances, adding: “Aylesbury and ourselves are the most consistent sides in this league. We’ve both suffered a couple of surprises, but we’ll be up for this one.”
