Bears secure league title

THE Henley Hawks 4th team, known as the Bears, secured the TVIL league title

THE Henley Hawks 4th team, known as the Bears, secured the TVIL league title against Drifters at Dry Leas on Saturday.

The Bears, managed by Seb Wylder and Sean Flemming, are unbeaten in the competition with two games still to play.

A minute’s silence was observed for Rae Jones, past president and chairman of Henley Rugby Club, prior to kick-off.

Drifters started well looking strong in the forwards but despite spending the first 20 minutes in Henley’s 22 they couldn’t break through the defence. A solid performance from the Henley pack in defence and attack allowed the ball to hit the back line and tries started to appear, finishing 19 -0 to the Bears at half-time.

Shortly after the re-start Drifters outside centre saw yellow for a late tackle on Bears winger Jackson Lambert Wilks, which meant Henley kept scoring. But Drifters did not give up and with 15 minutes to go ran in a very good try to put them on the scoreboard.

Simon Annan received the Bears’ man-of-the-match award.
