Hawks junior and mini sides dominate two tournaments

MORE than 200 members of Henley Rugby Club toured to the Isle of Wight

MORE than 200 members of Henley Rugby Club toured to the Isle of Wight last weekend to compete in the Vectis Rugby Festival.

The tournament is one of the largest and longest running rugby festivals in the country with 240 teams entered from all over the south of England.

Henley fielded 10 teams from ages eight to 11, with seven of the teams winning their respective finals and the remaining three all finishing as runners-up.

Speaking after the successful tour, Henley U11 head coach Dax Aiken said: “This is just a fantastic result and a true demonstration of our strength in depth as a club. Unlike some other clubs the Henley teams were made up of so called mixed ability players, some players winning events in their first season of rugby making these results all the more outstanding.”

The previous weekend Henley U7s had a successful day at Oxfordshire Tag Fest tournament, held at Gosford All Blacks RFC.

All four of the Henley teams entered performed well with two of the sides winning the cup and trophy competitions.

Henley mini and juniors section has over 350 playing members from ages six through to 12-years-old and hopes to attract new junior members across all age groups next season which gets under way in September.
