Home Secretary Theresa May visited Henley Sailing Club for its annual open weekend.
The Maidenhead MP was shown around the club in Willow Lane, Wargrave and was told about the club’s activities and youth section.
Mrs May said: “This is a great facility which, unless you know about it, is quite hidden. It’s great to make use of the river and particularly to get young people interested in sailing.”
Commodore Carol Stitson added: “Like many locals, Mrs May didn’t realise the club has been in existence since 1896 and she was very interested in all our sailing activities, from racing through to the fun days we hold throughout the summer.” The weekend was part of the Royal Yachting Association’s Push the Boat Out campaign to help promote of water sports.
