Church in cash plea

RESIDENTS are being asked to make donations in support of the churches in the Shiplake, Harpsden and Dunsden benefice.

The rector Rev Robert Thewsey says both St Peter and St Paul’s in Shiplake and St Magaret’s in Harpsden are village assets as they are open every day and All Saints’ in Dunsden is open at the weekends during the summer months.

The churches are inspected every five years by an architect who produces a report that outlines maintenance tasks that are needed and over what time period.

Rev Thewsey said: “At present, it is only the regular congregation who bear the maintenance costs for these lovely sites.

“On behalf of our congregation members, I extend an invitation to all our local people to express their support for the church financially — even a very small amount is greatly appreciated.

“I would encourage you to give on a regular basis and if you are a taxpayer then to use the Parish Giving Scheme.”
