‘Not our problem’

SONNING Common Parish Council has turned down a request to declare a “climate emergency”.

Councils across the country have been passing motions in response to warnings of “catastrophic” climate change and agreeing to adopt environmentally friendly policies.

Lyndsay Henderson, of Wood Lane, Sonning Common, asked the parish council what action it was considering.

Councillors Douglas Kedge responded: “Climate change is well outside the remit of this council.”

Councillor Leigh Rawlins said: “There are limits to the powers that we have to change the world.”
