Children recreate Roman battle in school playground
CHILDREN at Sonning Common Primary School had fun being Romans.
The year 4 pupils have been learning about ancient Rome in class and took part in a Roman Day. Youngsters arrived at the Grove Road school dressed in togas and armour.
They chose their own Roman names and took part in a number of activities, including making mosaics and food-tasting. They made their own shields, painted pottery and learned how to march in formation like Roman soldiers.
The day was rounded off with a re-enactment of a Roman battle on the playground. A school spokeswoman said: “We held the Roman Day to celebrate the end of a unit of work on the Romans. The day was a huge success. Lots of thought and effort had obviously gone into the costumes.”
