A COUPLE hope to have raised thousands of pounds for charity with their Christmas lights display.
Brian and Sue Nayler, of Shepherds Lane, Caversham Heights, had thousands of multi-coloured LED lights, outdoor Christmas decorations and a nativity scene.
They were raising money for the Sue Ryder palliative care hub South Oxfordshire.
Mrs Nayler said: “We started doing our Christmas lights about 10 years ago. We started off very small, with just icicle lights around the house, and every year we have added a new sparkly something.
“This year, with the help of neighbours and a local farmer supplying hay bales, the display includes a nativity scene in the carport plus Santa’s sleigh with reindeer, snowmen and a Christmas tree covered in lights, which was about 3ft when we planted it and now it reaches the top of the house.
“It has become quite a popular landmark at this time of year and lots of our neighbours have also started putting up more lights so the road looks very pretty. Kids love it and we often get letters.”
The couple have raised about £4,000 for the charity in recent years.
Mrs Nayler said: “We started raising money for Sue Ryder about six years ago after we saw the fantastic care and support our neighbour received from the charity at the end of his life.
“In the first year, we had a collection bucket and raised a few hundred pounds and since then the display and funds have just grown and grown.”
