MORE than 70 people took part in an open water swim competition before the Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta early on Saturday.

Gary Dressel swam the 2,000m course in a record 25 minutes and 42 seconds, beating last year’s winner Matt Baker by one minute and 42 seconds.

The winner of the 1,000m event was Matt McQuillan, who finished in a time of 14 minutes and 27 seconds.

The winners were presented with prizes donated by Hotel du Vin in Henley.

Dick Goodall, chairman of the swim, said: “It was great to see local swimmers of all abilities enjoying the unique and friendly atmosphere of the event. Many stayed for the day and took part in the racing on the water.”
