A RECORD sum of about £9,000 was raised by this year’s snowdrop teas at Swyncombe church.
Hundreds of people visited St Botolph’s over the last three weekends to see the carpet of white flowers in the churchyard. Volunteers sold tea and cakes.
The total raised beat the previous record of £7,600, which was set last year.
John Sennett, one of the helpers, said: “We were astonished by the generosity of our visitors. There’s something about the church’s welcome and its age that brings out the best in people.
“The teams of bakers worked overnight on the final Saturday to come up trumps for the visitors.”
The snowdrop teas, which have beeen going 23 years, raise money for maintenance of the Norman church.
