Davenport’s hat-trick helps down Kingfisher

THE Sonning Common and Peppard A side were held to a 5-5 draw by mid table Curzon Club A in their battle to finish third in Division 1 of the Reading and District League’s latest round of matches.

Jason Roberts and Joe Barraclough each won twice while Malcolm Gregory picked up a single and came closest to toppling Curzon’s top player Jon Willis, Gregory just losing out 11-9 in the fifth game.

The B team were up against strong opposition in Kingfisher B and lost 9-1, Andy Wang pushing Mark Banks and Martin Adams hard as well as managing to beat Richard Rosinski. Denise Weller and Matt Isherwood both managed good victories over Sachin Kapoor as the C team lost 8-2 against Kingfisher A.

In Division 2 Sonning Common and Peppard D battled to a 5-5 draw at Pangbourne WMC with Mark Jones, Angus Jones and Eric Walker all managing close victories against Leroy Wilson while the E team continue to flirt with relegation from Division 3, after they lost 8-2 against Springfield B, Melvyn Lovegrove picking up their two victories.

In Division 4 the G team continued their fine recent run after Ian Davenport’s hat-trick saw them win 7-3 at Kingfisher I, while the F team lost 6-4 at home to Kennet Valley Free Church B, Mike Casserely and Julian James with singles wins. Casserley teamed up with Derek Maltby to win the doubles 7-11, 11-6, 7-11, 12-10, 11-7.
