Wang and Maltby hit maximums

ANDY Wang and Nigel Maltby both got maximums as Sonning Common and Peppard B won 8-2 at Milestone A in Division 1 of the Reading and District League’s latest round of matches.

With Brian Meheux winning his match, the B team is virtually assured of a fifth-placed finish to the season.

The A team dropped to fourth place after losing heavily against champions elect Kingfisher A 0-10.

Jason Roberts, Neil Hurford and Joe Barraclough were unable to dent the Kingfisher teams’ championship charge.

The C team remain above the relegation zone after taking four points from a 6-4 defeat at Kennet Valley A. Tim Raby, Matt Isherwood and Matt Stone all picked up wins.

In Division 2, Alan Mollet’s treble helped the D team beat Kingfisher F 6-4, Angus Jones adding two wins but just coming up short against Carol Byers with Carol winning 7-11, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9 and 11-9.

The E team remain perilously close to the drop in Division 3 despite taking three points from a 7-3 defeat against Tidmarsh D. Melvyn Lovegrove secured two points and Jamie Legg picked up a single.

In Division 4, the G team could only field two players and although Jim Warren recorded his first maximum they subsequently lost 3-7 to Tidmarsh E, while the F team drew 5-5 with Springfield E.

Mike Casserley and Julian James each won twice with Derek Maltby and Casserley also combining to win the crucial doubles set.
