THE Sonning Common and Peppard B side missed out on a chance of virtually assuring their safety in Division 1 of the Reading and District League last week but Kingfisher C were in top form as they went down 8-2.

Malcolm Gregory won both the B team’s sets while Keith Swain just missed out against Lisa Williams, 11-8, 5-11, 7-11, 13-11, 8-11.

In Division 3 Our Lady of Peace F were 7-3 winners against struggling Sonning Common and Peppard D. Sonning Common took a 20 lead but the visitors only lost one other contest and ran out 73 winners thanks to a Harry Brough treble, Pat Daniels’ two wins and Sajjid Hussain defeating Paul Treadgold in the last contest of the match.

A Danny Dockree treble for the Sonning Common and Peppard E team opened up the Division 5 title race as they went on to beat second-placed Post Office B 7-3. Dockree’s treble supported through a Jim McClure double and Derek Brooke-Wavell’s single, plus the crucial doubles set.

The G team of Derek Maltby, Matt Tarrant and Steve Knott were in cup action as they bowed out of the Fifth and Lower Cup competition after losing out to higher-league opposition in Post Office B, 8-1.
