Roberts’ wins not enough

THE Sonning Common and Peppard A team of Jason Roberts, Keith Swain and Malcolm Gregory opened their Division 1 season with a 7-3 defeat against a strong Kingfisher B team who have switched from the top Polish team from last season. Roberts won two of his three contests while Swain managed a single.

The B team lost 9-1 at Kingfisher D in the same division in a long match. Jeremy Willis managed his first Division 1 victory with a 11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 3-11, 11-9 win against Leo Long while Paul Jarvis and Nigel Maltby were unfortunate not to pick up at least one win.

In Division 2 the C team continued their fine start by winning 9-1 against bottom-of-the-table Kingfisher G, while in Division 4 the D team continue to lead the way after Allan Mollett returned to form with a maximum as they beat Tilehurst Methodist C 7-3.

The E team are also doing well in Division 4, Mike Casserley starring with a treble as they won 7-3 against Milestone B. The F team were frustrated at promotion contenders Post Office B as they slipped to an 8-2 defeat, Matthew Tarrant with their two victories.

In Division 5 the G team lost 7-3 at Our Lady of Peace G as they continue to search for their first victory. Joe Barraclough scored a single while Thomas Perkins had two good wins, including an 11-6, 5-11, 9-11, 12-10, 14-12 win against Jan Polnik while Marko Madzar made his league debut.
