THE Sonning Common and Peppard B team remain top of Division 2 in the Reading and District League after winning a hard fought match against Kingfisher G 8-2.

Simon Berry and Brian Meheux both starred with trebles but Nigel Maltby badly tore his calf muscle in one of his contests and will be out of action for six weeks.

Thomas Perkins starred for Sonning Common and Peppard E with a treble that included an 11-5 fifth game victory over fellow Sonning Common youngster Danny Dockree and an even more impressive 11-7, 4-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-9 win against Matt Stone. However it was Sonning Common C who went on to take both points by beating their E team club mates 6-4, Matt beating Joe Barraclough 11-9, 8-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-9 in what turned out to be a key second set. The D team battled hard but eventually lost 8-2 at home to Kingfisher E, Alan Mollett and Anthony Reeve with singles and Alan particularly unlucky when losing 4-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-4, 13-15 to Kingfisher’s Colin Dyke.

In Division 5 the G team saw their unbeaten record ended after they could only field two players against fellow promotion hopefuls Kingfisher L, Mike Casserely with two wins while both he and Derek Maltby just missed out in the doubles set 11-9, 13-11, 9-11, 8-11, 9-11 to eventually lose the match 8-2.
