Shiplake men’s champion makes it six wins in a row at keenly fought finals day

DEFENDING men’s champion Jeremy Morgan won his sixth successive title at Shiplake Tennis and Social Club’s

DEFENDING men’s champion Jeremy Morgan won his sixth successive title at Shiplake Tennis and Social Club’s finals day on Sunday.

Morgan beat Rob Dowling in the first match of the day. Morgan went on to win the mixed doubles with partner Georgie Leach, but lost out in the men’s doubles to Rob Dowling and Robin Hughes.

Claire Parsons took the ladies’ singles title, with her mother, Janette Verrall and partner Brenda Nearchou beating Sandra Greenslade and Jacquie Williams in three sets to win the ladies’ doubles.

The junior matches in all age groups from nine years upwards produced some exciting matches.

Max Head and Oliver Doyle played for nearly two hours in the mini green final, with Doyle finally claiming victory.



Sandra Greenslade and Robin Andrews took the veteran’s mixed doubles against Sue Koomen and Richard Mannix. Stanley Thomas won the U15 singles, with sister Millie taking the U13 title, and father Matt winning the mixed doubles plate competition with Sarah Blomfield. Siblings James and Ruby Sarney found themselves against each other in the U13 doubles final, with James and Olivia Steel clinching it from Ruby and Millie Thomas in a hard-fought three-set match. Other winners were as follows: U18 singles, Harry Waiton; U18 doubles, Harry Waiton and Lorna Cousins; U15 doubles, Henry O’Brien and Zoe Richardson; Mini Orange, Noah Elrington; Mine Red, Theo Scampion; Mini Green doubles, Oliver Doyle and Neve Staines; Mini Orange doubles, Zack Goforth and Harvey Doyle.
