WITH the amazing vocal talents of Jon Hawkins, Ricky Rojas, Damion Scarcella and Simon Schofield, we were taken on a fantastic musical journey through the CV of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and some of the hits of their contemporaries, supported by a fabulous team of dancers and musicians.
It also proved to be an education, with little titbits of biographical information interspersed throughout.
With great lighting and a showbiz stage set-up, this was a well-paced, energetic, enjoyable romp packed with entertainment.
Jon, Ricky, Damion and Simon all hit the high notes (and the harmonic low notes) and had a real sense of camaraderie as they put their hearts into singing such classics as
Oh What a Night,
Sherry,
Beggin’,
Rag Doll,
Dawn,
My Eyes Adored You,
Let’s Hang On and songs that I consider singalong classics, such as
Big Girls Don’t Cry,
Walk Like a Man and
Can’t Take my Eyes off of You.
Their strong falsetto voices resonated loud and clear, bringing every song to life.
We were also treated to a
Grease rendition and Wall of Sound numbers sung by the ladies, including
Be My Baby and
Da Doo Ron Ron, alongside an array of top tunes from the Fifties and Sixties.
This musical talent was augmented by an ever-changing wardrobe and scenery, with matching jackets through all the colours and a
Grease leather jacket, through to shimmering dresses and a very funky recreation of a Sixties record parlour.
Most of the audience were on their feet towards the end and were boogieing, singing and clapping along.
It was clear Franki Valli and the Four Seasons have some die-hard fans from the era and this is no surprise given the tunes are timeless.
