LIVING out of a suitcase and driving hundreds of miles every week is not everyone&rsquos idea of fun, but CBeebies&rsquo newest stars and Comedy Club 4 Kids veterans the Three Half Pints positively relish life on the road.
Currently clocking up the miles on a tour that started in April and runs until November, tomorrow (Saturday) will see the trio bring their show Bad Guys to the Kenton Theatre for a 2.30pm matinee .
Aimed at five- to 11-year-olds, the show is a chance for Spot Bots fans to see their TV heroes — Robin Hatcher, Richard Franklin and Callum Donnelly — live on stage.
“We absolutely love getting out, and performing every day,” says Callum.
Richard agrees, adding: “Doing a show for different people day after day improves you as a performer in ways that gigging more sporadically just can&rsquot.”
Touring brings other skills with it, adds Robin. “Driving through the Brecon Beacons last winter in the dark, wind and rain, Callum got surprisingly good at leaping out of the car to move sheep off the road.”
Sheep aside, the stage show sees the three friends turning to the dark side...
Derek, Ernie and Dick are really bored of being good. It&rsquos just got to be more fun being a baddie. But being an evil scientist, pirate or cowboy is trickier than they thought. Can the bumbling brothers learn how to stay out of jail and be real bad guys?
The Three Half Pints&rsquo slapstick comedy and sketch-writing skills led to them being cast last year as green-faced aliens the Odd Bods in CBeebies&rsquo new show, Spot Bots.
“Doing Spot Bots was amazing — a completely different experience to touring but great fun,” says Robin. “We wrote a lot of the TV sketches in the pub, and we got some strange looks when we were loudly talking about aliens falling out of windows or chasing goats.”
Those writing skills have been put to good use on their newest show too.
“Our last show A Christmas Carol was based, however loosely, on something that already existed,” adds Richard. “This is completely original.
“It&rsquos also exciting to be writing for children because our style of comedy is unique on the children&rsquos theatre circuit, appealing to children and grown-up children too!”
