Masqueraders are making superstars out of Jesus story

HENLEY actress Jessica Sierpowska is taking on another leading role at the Kenton Theatre this September.

HENLEY actress Jessica Sierpowska is taking on another leading role at the Kenton Theatre this September.

Jessica, 14, of Crisp Road, is playing the role of Mary in the Masqueraders prodction of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Last year, the Chiltern Edge pupil played the leading lady in a production of Les Misérables, also at the Kenton, with the same production company.

Director Beryl Cook said: “We have been working on this for about six months now. Although it’s a youth production the musical is exactly the same as the adult production and the West End show, so the young people have had their work cut out. They are doing extremely well — we have some very talented young actors and singers in the group.”

Ms Cook said the group, which rehearses in the Gosbrook Road Methodist Church in Caversham, was also “extremely lucky” to have secured the help of West End musical director Gary Hinds.

The roles of Jesus and Judas are played by brothers Jules and James Gribble from Tilehurst.

Jesus Christ Superstar, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice, will show at the Kenton Theatre from September 10 to 14 at 7.30pm. On Saturday, September 7 between 11am and 2pm the cast will be singing a selection of the songs in Henley’s Market Place.
