Foursome mix it up for laughs

A COMEDY act formed at the Henley Fringe three years ago will return to perform at the town’s theatre.

Mixed Doubles, beloved of BBC Radio 4 for their brand of rapid-fire sketch comedy, bring their best of show to the Kenton Theatre.

The foursome knew each other from their drama school days at Mountview Academy. All were keen writers and it was surely inevitable they would one day reunite and postpone unemployment through the means of sketch comedy.

Specialists in observing the absurdity in everyday lives, these four writer/performers have refined an undeniably nostalgic school of sketch comedy; a vivid blend of Messrs Fry & Laurie and Not The Nine O’Clock News, with a sprinkle of Enid Blyton, a pinch of Smack The Pony and a dash of Pimm’s on the village green.

Although only formed in 2012 the group has performed at the festivals of Leicester, Brighton, Edinburgh and Adelaide, alongside their frequent London shows.

Accolades include the People’s Choice Comedy Shorts Award from TV channel Dave in 2013, named as one of the Guardian’s top five Edinburgh festival showreels in 2013 and finalists in the Best New Sketch Act of 2013 by Foster’s So You Think You’re Funny Sketch Club in 2013.

The show appears on Saturday, February 7. Box office (01491) 575698.
