70 homes lose gas

ABOUT 70 homes in a Henley cul-de-sac were without gas for almost 24 hours.

Residents of The Close, off Greys Road, were given electric cookers and heaters by Southern Gas Networks after their supply was cut off at 3pm on Thursday last week.

They were then hit by a power cut at about 10.45am on Friday. The gas and electricity were both restored shortly after 2pm that day.

Southern Gas Networks is replacing metal gas pipes beneath Greys Road. The work began on March 3 and finished earlier this week.

A spokeswoman said it was a particularly complex engineering project but could not explain why the supply was lost.
