Call to re-phase lights

TRAFFIC light phasing at the main crossroads in Henley could be altered.

TRAFFIC light phasing at the main crossroads in Henley could be altered.

Town councillor Lorraine Hillier has asked for changes to be made to the lights to prevent people “running the gaunlet” when trying to cross the roads.

She said: “When you try to cross it is very difficult because the lights change automatically from Duke Street to Hart Street and there is never the chance of a break for pedestrians.”

Deputy Mayor Martin Akehurst agreed, saying: “The length of time allowed for pedestrians to cross seems to be particularly short compared with those at the Reading Road junction.”

Town and county councillor David Nimmo Smith, whose responsibilities include transport, said he would raise the issue with highways officers at Oxfordshire County Council.
